Online Zoom End-of-Life Consult

This appointment provides a veterinary assessment for the “twilight time” in your pet’s life.

Perhaps you are wondering how to know when it's time, and would like help formulating ways to evaluate your pet's quality of life.

Maybe your pet has been diagnosed with a terminal disease, and you want to know how to make these coming days, weeks, or months as comfortable as possible and prepare for days ahead.

Or maybe your pet has simply entered their senior years and there is still plenty of time remaining, but you want to know how to monitor and assist them as they develop physical limitations.

Why online and not in person?

I'm immunocompromised while on chemotherapy, likely until June 2025. Prognosis is excellent and I'm doing well--just need to minimize risks.

What does the appointment look like? â€‹â€‹

  • Beforehand, I will review any previous veterinary records made available.

  • Plan to settle in for your zoom call in a place where I can see both you and your pet. Over the course of doing in-home end-of-life consults, I've found that I can gather a great deal of information about a pet's comfort and limitations simply by observing them in their familiar, comfortable home setting. I may ask you to encourage your pet to stand up, to follow your pet around with the camera on them, and to show me a few things on their body with the camera.

  • Together, you and I will assess your pet’s comfort and quality of life. We’ll go over concerns you may have and your goals for your pet’s care. The focus of the appointment can be adapted according to situational needs, and may include discussion of such topics as

    • Potential trajectories of disease

    • Symptoms to monitor

    • Further diagnostic testing to consider

    • Tools to help you develop a framework for decisions regarding euthanasia

    • Resources to help you, your children, and your other pets navigate this time

    • Palliative medication options to improve comfort

    • Options for mobility and incontinence aid

Fees

Brief consultation, 30 minutes or less: $85 (a brief consultation does not include the option of prescription medications unless I have seen your pet in-person within the last year)

Regular consultation, up to 60 minutes: $150. If we decide to do a trial course of a prescription medication, I must also do an in-person physical exam on your pet in order to legally prescribe it. This will be brief, and done in-home on some day in the near future after the online consult (at a time when no one in the house is ill with something contagious). There will be a fee of $25-50 for this visit, depending on your location and the cost of the medications.

I accept cash, check, Venmo, and credit card payment options.

Geographic Range:

Limited to the Frenchtown-Clinton-Missoula area, due to the potential need for me to travel to you for a physical exam of your pet in order to prescribe a medication.
